Lyons Convert Storm Miscues Into 11-4 Win

The Lyon County Lyons took advantage of six Hopkins County Central errors to jump out to a big lead and then roll to an 11-2 win over the Storm Thursday night in Mortons Gap.

With the six fielding miscues charged to Hopkins County Central, the Lyons were able to score nine unearned runs for the game.

Lyon County plated two runs in the first, one in the second, and then four more in the top of the third as the Lyons ran out to a 7-0 lead and they were never threatened from that point.

The lead reached 10-0 when Lyon County scored three more runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Hopkins County Central was able to avoid an early end to the night when the Storm scored two runs in the bottom half of the sixth, one of those runs coming off a Lyon County fielding miscue.

The Lyons then got one of the runs back in the top of the seventh to make it a nine-run lead.

Hopkins Central made things a bit more interesting in the bottom of the seventh, scoring two run and putting runners on the corners before the Lyons were finally able to shut the door.

While Hopkins County Central was charged with six errors in the field, the Lyons had their own struggles, finishing the night with four errors.

For the Lyons, Paysen Oliver was 2-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Blake Guess finished 2-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Tanner Anderson ended up going 2-3 with a run scored.

Hopkins Central got two hits and two RBIs from Neilan Bruce and a hit each from Gauge Brasher and Brody Smith, as the Storm were outhit by the Lyons 9 to 4.

On the mound, Lyon County’s Hudson Phillips got the win. He went 5 ⅓ innings, giving up two runs, one of them earned, on three hits, striking out ten, and walking two.

Peyton James got the start for Hopkins County Central and was tagged with the loss.
