Alex Richards was on his game Monday night for the Madisonville-North Hopkins Maroons. The sophomore hurler pitched a complete game three-hitter as the Maroons took a big 2-1 win on the road at McLean County.
The Cougars’ Layden Bozarth was no slouch on the hill either. Bozarth gave up just four hits in taking the loss.
All of the offense in the game came in the third inning.
After a two-out triple from Evan Wilson and a walk to Ryder Sandidge, Wilson scored on a steal of home and Sandidge scored on a wild pitch to give the Maroons a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom half of the inning, McLean County got one of the runs back on a sac fly to trim the lead to 2-1, but that turned out to be all the lead that Alex Richards would need. He was able to hold the Cougars to just one hit over the final four innings as the Maroons held on for the win.
Blake Prow went 2-3 to lead the Maroons. Ryder Sandidge and Evan Wilson added one hit apiece.
Alex Richards finished the game giving up one run on three hits, striking out seven and walking three.
