Lady Storm Roll Past Murray for Fourth-Straight Win

Hopkins County Central extended its winning streak to four games with a 12-2 victory over visiting Murray High on Thursday. The Lady Storm improved to 5-10 with four of those wins coming in the last nine days.

Layla Sorrells got the Lady Storm started in style with a two-run home run in the first inning, and Brinley Stephens added an RBI double for an early 3-0 advantage.

Reese Renth smacked a three-run homer in the top of the 2nd to make it 6-2, and the score held until the top of the 6th. RBI singles by Emily Ballard and Cassidy Knight highlighted a five-run 6th, and Renth closed out a two-hit, four-RBI night with a run-scoring single in the top of the 7th to end the game.

Ballard earned the win in the circle for the Lady Storm, allowing two unearned runs on four hits with two walks. Renth worked the final two frames, giving up a pair of hits with a walk and four strikeouts.

Sorrells finished with three hits and two RBI, and Brenley Stephens had three hits and drove in a run. Ballard and Cadence Allen both had two hits, and Knight added two RBI.

MacKenzie Toliver took the loss as Murray slipped to 2-13 with its tenth loss in a row. Toliver surrendered six runs, two earned, on four hits with a walk and a strikeout over two innings.

The Lady Storm will look to extend its winning run on Monday when they travel to Caldwell County. The Lady Tigers took the season’s first meeting 9-0.
