Lady Storm Winning Streak Snapped With Loss to Webster County

Hopkins County Central hosted visiting Webster County on Friday in search of a sixth-straight victory, but despite outhitting the Lady Trojans 8-7, the Lady Storm couldn’t avoid an 11-6 defeat.

The Lady Trojans led 2-0 after Layla Scott’s RBI triple in the top of the 2nd, before Hopkins Central used back-to-back RBI doubles by Addison Blanchard and Brinley Stephens to tie the game in the bottom of the 3rd.

However, Webster surged back in front on RBI singles by Raynei Roy and Avery Guill in the 5th, and extended the lead to 9-2 with four more runs in the 6th.

The Lady Storm posted three runs in the bottom of the 6th and another in their final at-bat, but the Lady Trojans salted away the win with a pair of runs in their half of the 7th.

Emily Ballard took the loss in the circle for Hopkins Central, allowing five runs, only one earned, on six hits with a walk and a strikeout in four and two-thirds innings.

Cadence Allen had two hits and drove in two runs for the Lady Storm, and Blanchard and Layla Sorrells each finished with two hits.

Scott went the distance to earn the win for Webster, giving up six runs, two earned, on eight hits with five strikeouts and three walks. Roy finished with three hits and four RBI, and Natalie Eversole had two hits and drove in a run.

The Lady Trojans improved to 11-15-1 ahead of a trip to face Owensboro Christian on Saturday.

Hopkins Central slipped to 6-11 with a doubleheader at Crittenden County scheduled for Monday.
