Four double-digit seeds joined the top two seeds in the quarterfinals of the Boys Region 2 Singles Tennis Tournament on Monday at Hopkinsville’s Ruff Park.

Fort Campbell’s Simone Amadoria earned the tournament’s top seed and didn’t drop a game in a straight-set win over Lyon County’s Jaise Riley. He defeated Henderson County’s Jace Evans 6-1, 6-1 to advance to the semifinals and earn a spot at the state first round.

Amadoria will face either Cohl Hoard or Caleb Tagg in Wednesday’s semifinal. Hoard of Hopkins County Central entered the tourney seeded 20th but knocked off No. 13 Declan Miller of Caldwell County 6-0, 6-0 and No. 4 Teerth Shah of University Heights Academy 6-2, 6-1.

Tagg of Madisonville-North Hopkins was seeded 12th and knocked off No. 5 Jeffrey Joiner of Christian County 6-0, 6-0 in the opening round.  Tagg and Hoard will play on Tuesday.

Also advancing to the semifinals was No. 2 Stephen Whitecotton of University Heights Academy, who rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win over No. 15 Nick Burns in his opener and handled No. 7 Giacomo Vaccoro of Fort Campbell 6-4, 6-1 in the quarterfinals.

Playing for Heritage Christian Academy last year, Whitecotton finished fourth at region and advanced to the state tournament.

He will play the winner of the Sebastian Villanueva/Jaxton Duncan quarterfinal scheduled for Tuesday. Villanueva of Lyon County defeated Caldwell County’s Charlie Conger 6-2, 6-0 in the opener, and took down No. 3 seed Austin Brown of Heritage Christian Academy 6-0, 6-1 in the Round of 16.

Duncan, last year’s region runner-up, won his round of 16 opener 6-0, 6-0.

The semifinals and championship are scheduled for Wednesday at Ruff Park. The four semifinalists in singles and doubles will advance to the State First Round at South Warren on May 20.
