On a night when both teams flashed early offense to combine for 28 runs, hosts Todd County Central outscored Russellville 19-9 for the Lady Rebels’ sixth win in seven outings.

Todd Central evened its 13th-District record at 3-3 while the Lady Panthers slipped to 12-12, 2-4 in district play, with their fourth-straight defeat.

Leading 2-0 in the bottom of the 2nd, Todd Central extended the lead on Naomi Welborn’s three-run home run, and added three more runs on Bailey Harper’s RBI double and Rylann Griggs’ runs-scoring single to lead 9-0. However, Russellville answered with six runs in the top of the 3rd, including a three-run homer by Chloe Penrod.

Four more runs in the 4th again put the Lady Rebels on the verge of a short night at 14-6, with Olivia Weikel’s RBI double and an RBI single by Abigail Choate doing the damage.

Addison Woodall tripled to bring in a run and Welborn picked up another RBI with a single to stretch the advantage to 16-7 in the 5th, and Welborn’s second long ball of the night, a two-run shot, made it 18-8 in the 7th.

Russellville got a run back in its final at-bat on Penrod’s RBI double, but it was too little, too late for the Lady Panthers.

Woodall got the win in the circle for the Lady Rebels, allowing five runs, three earned, on a single hit with two strikeouts and six walks over two and a third innings. Weikel came on in relief, giving up four earned runs on five hits with three walks and a pair of strikeouts.

Welborn had a monster night at the plate, finishing 4/5 with two home runs and seven RBI. Hall and Weikel each had three hits and drove in two runs, Harper added four RBI, Choate had two hits and drove in a pair of runs, and Woodall collected two hits with an RBI.

Penrod had two hits and five RBI for the Lady Panthers, and also took the loss. Penrod allowed 11 runs, 10 earned, on seven hits with two walks and five strikeouts over three and two-thirds innings.

Todd Central improved to 15-10-1 ahead of a visit from Muhlenberg County on Friday. The Lady Mustangs have won the previous three meetings in the series.
