When the Caldwell County Lady Tigers visited Hopkins County Central last month, Alexis Wood pitched a five-hit shutout as Caldwell claimed a 9-0 victory.
When the two teams met again Thursday in Princeton, it was Sydney Glisson who pitched a five-hit shutout as the Lady Tigers blanked the Lady Storm 10-0 in five innings.
Caldwell kept its hopes alive for the No. 1 seed for the 7th District tournament with the win. The Lady Tigers will make up a home date against Madisonville-North Hopkins on Tuesday. Both teams are 4-1 in the district, meaning the winner gets the top seed for the district tournament.
Caldwell supported Glisson’s work in the circle with a 13-hit attack led by Daelen Kizzee.
Kizzee was 3-for-4 with four runs batted in and two runs scored. She also stole two bases and is 16-for-16 on thefts this season.
Kizzee scored the game’s first run in the first inning when she led off with a bunt single. She then scored on one play when she stole second, continued to third when the ball got away from the catcher, then came in to score on a throwing error.
Caldwell (9-11) then erupted for five runs in the second inning.
Kizzee singled home two runs as part of the big frame. Ellie King had an RBI single while Tink Clark tripled in a run. Another run scored on a wild pitch.
A three-run fourth made it 9-0.
Kizzee had a sacrifice fly to left. A throwing error allowed another run to cross the plate. Addison McDaniel singled to left to bring in another run.
Kizzee singled home a run in the bottom of the fifth to end the game on the 10-run mercy rule.
King was 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI and scored twide. Nya McClure went 2-for-2 and scored two runs. Kayliana Bender was 2-for-3 with a double.
Hopkins Central (8-12, 3-3) was led by Reese Renth, who went 2-for-2.
Glisson, who took over as the Lady Tigers’ main pitcher when Wood was injured last week, struck out two and walked one. She was also 1-for-2 at the plate.
Caldwell will next host Murray for Senior Night on Friday.
Hopkins Central will go to Fort Campbell on Friday.
