The Christian County Colonels came in eighth place at Saturday’s Class 3A Region 1 Meet hosted by Henderson County.
Satona Bailey came in second place in the sprint events, both to Henderson County’s King Combest in the latest showdown of the fastest two runners in western Kentucky.
Bailey’s time of 11.10 seconds in the 100 meters was just behind Combest’s 10.99.
Combest set a school record in winning the 200-meter dash in 21.87 seconds, nipping Bailey’s 21.93 dash at the line. Bailey’s time was second-fastest in school history behind only his 21.77 ran at the Warren East Raider Classic on April 25.
Thomas Johnson added a 16th-place finish in the 100-meter dash at 12.45 seconds, while Karmelo Bailey placed 10th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.49.
In the distance events, Cayden Cline paced the Colonels with a fourth-place finish in the 1600-meter run, crossing in 4:45.72. He also placed seventh in the 800-meter run at 2:05.78. His 800 time is the 11th fastest in school history and was the fastest run by a Colonel in 11 years (Quyntayvius Wilcox).
Mason Clark finished 10th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:20.39, while Bryce Hamlin was 13th in the 1600-meter run at 5:47.98.
Lucas Coats competed in the 3200-meter run and finished ninth with a time of 11:13.10.
Christian County’s 800-meter relay team finished fourth with a time of 1:32.85, while the 400-meter relay squad placed fifth with a season-best 44.30 seconds, the ninth fastest time in school history.
The 3200-meter relay team added a sixth-place finish in 9:56.54.
Chynaysneon Harris led the Colonels in the field events, earning second place in the high jump after clearing a personal best 5 feet, 8 inches. He also placed eighth in both the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 9.5 inches and the triple jump at 37 feet, 9.25 inches.
Eighth grader Frank Irving tied for eighth in the high jump after clearing 5 feet, 4 inches.
In the throwing events, JD Telensru finished sixth in the discus with a throw of 120 feet, 1 inch and added a 15th-place finish in the shot put at 34 feet, 1 inch.
Treshawn Crenshaw placed 15th in the discus with a throw of 65 feet, 3 inches.
Christian County totaled 36 points to finish in eighth place. Henderson County (117) won the region title with Marshall County (94) second.
