The Todd County Central Lady Rebels were right there on the verge of making their first appearance in the 4th Region semifinals since the 2008 season. After trailing 4-1, the Lady Rebels, who were making their first regional tournament appearance since 2014, had battled back to tie the game at 4-4 heading into the bottom of the fifth against the Barren County.
But, the Trojanettes had won 9 of their last 10, and the only loss in that stretch was an extra-inning loss to All A state champion Cumberland County, and they did what good teams just find a way to do, and that is win a game where their backs are against the wall.
Barren County got an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth and then back-to-back RBI singles in the bottom of the sixth to break the hearts of the Lady Rebels and their fans with a 7-4 win at Western Kentucky University.
Todd Central got on the board first in the top of the second with an RBI double from Abigail Choate. Barren County answered with four runs of its own in the bottom half of the inning and it looked as if the Trojanettes were about to be off and running.
However, Olivia Weikel, who entered the game in the second, held the Trojanettes in check as the Lady Rebels began to work their way back into the game.
Addison Woodall, playing in her final game, blasted a two-run homer in the top of the third to get the Lady Rebels to within 4-3. They pulled even at 4-4 in the top of the fifth on a sac fly from Olivia Weikel, and it was now game on.
But Barren County did what was needed to keep its season alive as the Trojanettes scored the final three runs of the game to take the win.
Naomi Gammon was 3-4 with two runs scored to lead Todd Central. Addison Woodall, Isabelle Hightower, and Abigail Choate added one hit each for the Lady Rebels, who were outhit 7 to 6.
Norah Shirley was the big stsory for Barren County, going 3-4 with three RBIs.
Todd County Central finishes the season at 17-15-1.
