The Hoptown Hoppers went on the road to face off with the Fulton Railroaders on Saturday, and they were able to get their second win in a row to start the season with a score of 7-3.
Neither team was able to score in the first inning, but the Hoppers got on the board with a Karysn Knowles RBI double to take a 1-0 lead. They followed it up with a walk with the bases loaded in the fourth inning to make it 2-0, but Fulton cut the lead back to one with a walk of their own.
But it was the sixth inning where the Hoppers were really able to crack the game wide open. They were able to score five runs, and they came from a trio of doubles from Kade Wall, Ryan McCartan, and Deklan Riggs.
Fulton was able to get two more runs in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings, but Hoptown’s pitching was able to hold the lead and help the team get their second win in a row to start the season.
Carter Ross was on the hill for the Hoppers, and he pitched the first 5.1 innings. He allowed just three hits and two runs, and he did so while racking up an impressive eight strikeouts.
McCartan and Riggs led the way for Hoptown at the plate with a pair of RBIs each, and Wall led the team in hits with a pair.
The Hoppers will be right back in action on Sunday against the Henderson Flash at home, and first pitch will be at 6 p.m.
