A former Caldwell County player and coach is the new baseball head coach at Graves County High School.

Josh Young was announced as the Eagles’ new head coach on Thursday.

“Priority No. 1 for me as a coach is to develop young men of high character and responsibility who are prepared to become successful men upon graduation and approaching adulthood,” Young said in a Graves County Schools release.

“If I am doing my job correctly, I have no doubt that results will show up on the field, but more importantly … off the field. Winning games will be a byproduct of building young men of character, discipline, and accountability. “

Young was a senior on Caldwell’s 2016 2nd Region championship squad that went 31-6 before falling to Scott County 1-0 in eight innings in the first round of the state tournament. Young saw action on the infield, in the outfield and on the mound that season.

He was also a member of Caldwell’s Class 2A state runner-up football team as a freshman in 2012.

Young later spent two seasons as baseball head coach at his alma mater, compiling a record of 46 wins and 19 losses.

Young’s 2024 Tigers went 27-7, winning the second-most games in school history, behind the 2016 team.

Young was voted 2nd Region Coach of the Year that season before stepping down as Caldwell head coach.

He has spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach for both the Graves County baseball and football programs.

The Eagles baseball team was 16-15 this past spring, winning the 3rd District championship.

“I truly believe this team and this program are more than capable of competing for and winning a regional championship,” Young added. “There is a lot of talent in this school system. It is just a matter of utilizing it and establishing a work ethic worthy of a championship.”

Young and his wife, Erica, live in Mayfield and they have a son, Dax, who is 1½.
