The Hoptown Hoppers and the Madisonville Miners played a double-header against one another on Monday evening at Elmer Kelley Stadium in Madisonville, KY. The Miners were able to take advantage of their home field and take the first game with a score of 8-3.

Madisonville’s pitching had a solid outing in the first game, as Kaelen Clarkson got the start on the mound and allowed just two hits in his four innings of work.

The team also had three players finish with two hits, while the Hoppers’ RBIs came from Konnor Scheidt and Nick Johnson.

The driving force in the win for the Miners was their six-run first inning, and it was highlighted by a two-run blast off the bat of Caleb Braden.

But when it came to the second game, the Hoppers were able to get revenge and grab a commanding 14-6 win after both teams put up double-digits in the hit column.

Hoptown and Madisonville were tied at three runs apiece after the first three innings, and while the Miners took the lead with a run in the fourth, the Hoppers got four of their own in the top of the fifth to take control.

They did not stop there, and they went on to score seven more runs in the final two innings to firmly grab the momentum and ride it to the win.

Evan Jacob went 3-for-4 for the Hoppers with a pair of runs batted in, while the Miners once again spread the offense around with four players who each finished with two base knocks.

The Hoppers will be hoping to ride their momentum from the second game into their next one on Tuesday against the Full Count Rhythm at home. First pitch of that game will be at 6:30 p.m. at Hopkinsville High School.

As for the Miners, they will also be looking for their second win in two days on Tuesday against the Fulton Railroaders on the road. First pitch of their game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
