Not only has Mian Momcilovic already played in 102 collegiate games but he’s played one year in the Pac 12 and two years in the Big 12 to prepare him for his first season in the Southeastern Conference at Kentucky.
The Big 12 has been an elite conference and Iowa State — where Momcilovic played — was the No. 5 seed in the Big 12 Tournament even though it was ranked No. 8 in the country (Iowa State has been ranked second in the nation once during the season).
“A couple of years ago, I feel like the conferences were a little different,” Momcilovic said during his media opportunity last week. “Now, I feel like they’re a lot more similar with everybody transferring.
“Obviously, the SEC is a little faster and more athletic. I would say just now with all of these transfers, it’s a little more closer together, the Big 12 and SEC. I feel like the transition (to the SEC) won’t be too hard.”
Kentucky junior teammate Trent Noah likes having Momcilovic on his team and doesn’t anticipate any huge transition problems for him this season.
“He’s obviously a tremendous basketball player. He’s a great player and he’s great outside of basketball too,” Noah said. “Really got to know him well. Got to learn so much from him. So I’m excited for him this year.”
Noah is a terrific shooter and has played with other prolific shooters and immediately noticed how his new teammates “carries himself a special way” at all times.
“He’s super confident in what he does, and that’s kind of what it comes down to,” Noah said. “He’s not really overthinking. He knows what he’s out there to do, and he does it really well.”

I don't buy into the conference rankings that much anymore. Florida looked the best team in the SEC all year and got beat in the second round. In college basketball the best team doesn't always win the championship in fact it rarely happens. Just like the article said Iowa State was one of the top teams in the country all year and was a #5 seed in the big 12 conference tournament. If they would have played in the SEC they would have been a top 5 team in the conference tournament as well. I think the conference that has went downhill more than any other is the ACC and everyone seen how the ACC/SEC challenge went last year. The ACC crushed the SEC. Does that mean the ACC was better than the SEC? No but they did play better during the challenge. I think it's 1.SEC 2. Big ten 3.Big 12 4. ACC and I think it's the exact same in football. That's what I find the most strange about it all.
