Point guard Quade Green, a former McDonald’s All-American who was more highly ranked than teammate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, is joining La Familia to play in The Basketball Tournament (TBT) this month.
Green joins Andrew Harrison, Kahlil Whitney, Willie Cauley-Stein, Reid Travis, and Archie Goodwin as the Kentucky alumni team’s first six commitments with additional players still to be announced. Former Cat Kerr Kriisa was scheduled to play with the team but his legal issues have taken him off the team.
Green played two seasons at Kentucky and opened the 2017-18 season as UK’s starter with Gilgeous-Alexander, a two-time NBA MVP now who also has a NBA title, playing behind him.
Green appeared in 43 career games at Kentucky with 13 starts. He averaged 9.3 points and 2.7 assists per game as a freshman and started 13 of the first 14 games before missing three games with injury. He scored in double figures eight times in 20 games after returning from his injury.
Green returned to Kentucky for his sophomore season despite constant rumors he would transfer. However, he announced on Dec. 11, 2018, he would be transferring to Washington.
The 28-year-old Green has played in the G League, Venezuela, Scotland, Kosovo, and Mexico during his five-year professional career. He most recently played for the Suke Lions in China during the 2025-26 season.
This year’s event has a different format as La Familia will have a best-of-three series against The Ville (Louisville alumni) to determine who advances. The first game at Memorial Coliseum in Lexington will be July 18 at noon and will be televised live on FOX. Game two will be played at Freedom Hall in Louisville July 20 at 7 pm ET and will be televised live on FS1.
Game three (if necessary) will be played Wednesday, July 22 at 6 pm ET on FS1.
