Five of the 10 bowlers representing Kentucky at the 2026 Junior Gold Championships in Minneapolis, Minnesota, this week are from Hopkinsville.
Christian Lane, Brycen Newcom, and Michael DeArmond from Christian County High School, and Alayna Windle and Braelyn Windle of Heritage Christian Academy are representing Hopkinsville at the event. In addition, Clarksville’s Everett Donaldson, who competes at Southern Lanes in Hopkinsville, has qualified for the event.
The tournament, conducted by the United States Bowling Congress (USBC), brings together nearly 3,500 of the nation’s top youth bowlers who earned their spots through qualifying tournaments held throughout the year. Competitors will battle for national championships, scholarship money totaling nearly $500,000, and, in the older age divisions, opportunities to earn positions on Junior Team USA and Futures Team USA, according to Bowl.com
The week-long event began with official practice sessions over the weekend before qualifying rounds got underway on Monday. Competition concludes on Saturday, July 18, with televised stepladder finals in eight divisions: U12, U14, U16, and U18 for both boys and girls.
This year’s championships are being hosted throughout the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area, marking the first time the event has been held there. Ten bowling centers are being used during qualifying, with the championship finals taking place at Cedarvale Lanes in Eagan, Minnesota.
In addition to national titles, the event serves as a primary selection event for Junior Team USA, making it one of the most competitive youth bowling tournaments in the country. College coaches from across the nation also attend the accompanying Junior Gold Trade Show and recruiting expo, giving participants an opportunity to showcase their talents before collegiate programs. The trade show, held at the Minneapolis Convention Center, attracts more than 9,000 athletes, families, and industry representatives each year.
