That rightfield wall did it again Saturday night. Fulton got a walk-off two-run homer to right to complete a comeback from seven runs down as the Railroaders kept their season alive by outscoring the Hoptown Hoppers 15-14.
The win evens the semifinal series at one game each, with the deciding game three set for Sunday evening at Hopkinsville High School. Sunday night’s winner will take on Henderson in the OVL championship series.
Fulton’s offense on their home field put up runs in eight of the nine innings, with the only inning the Railroaders failed to score in being the bottom of the fourth.
The Hoppers scored in four of their first six at-bats, but Railroader pitching was able to shoot the Hoptown batter order out over the final three innings as the Railroaders made their comeback to take the win.
No Hopper pitcher that took to the mound made it off the mound unscathed. All five pitchers gave up at least on earned run during their time on the hill. The Hoppers also had some control issues, giving up eight walks on the night.
Each team scored in both the first and second inning as Hoptown took a 7-4 lead. The Hoppers added big innings in the fifth and six as the lead grew to 14-7 heading into the bottom of the sixth, but then the Railroaders found the way to finally keep the Hoppers off the board.
Hoptown got a big night from B. Gibson, who went 3-5 with two home runs, four RBIs, and four runs scored. Six other Hopper batters had at least two hits for the game.
For the night, the two teams combined for 33 hits, with the Hoppers coming up with 17 and the Railroaders 16.
The deciding game for the series is set for 6pm Sunday night at Hopkinsville High School.
