For “older” Kentucky fans who still remember the dominant 1978 national championship season or younger Big Blue fans who have only heard about the national title run here is a chance for you to get all the inside information on that historic season.
The golden anniversary of that championship will be in 2028 and the UK Alumni Association is already offering a cruise along the Scottish coast from April 27 to May 5, 2028,
Jack “Goose” Givens, the Final Four MVP, will let fans know what it was like when he went 18 of 27 from the field and scored 41 points against Duke in the 94-88 national title game victory.
Givens previewed the cruise on The Leach Report with Tom Leach Thursday. He said the players would spend “all day, every day with a big group of Kentucky alumni” on the trip.
“We will spend a lot of time talking Kentucky basketball and what it was like for us winning the championship,” Givens said.
He joked that the “statute of limitations” was up with the NCAA so that could open the conversation.
“We can talk about some stuff that we’ve never been able to talk about publicly, stuff that happened, funny stuff, serious stuff that we all shared,” Givens said.
Also scheduled to be on the trip from the 1978 team are Kyle Macy, Jay Shidler, James Lee and Fred Cowan. Macy remains one of the most beloved Wildcats of all time and Shilder — “The Blonde Bomber” — was both a great shooter and a fan favorite. Lee was one of the most intimidating and physical players ever to play at UK and Cowan was an in-state player who was a valuable reserve.
Space on the cruise is limited and Givens warned Thursday that a similar trip a few years ago sold out quickly.

My dad was born in 1954 and talks about that team constantly. I grew up listening about Kyle Macy and how we came back one time with Macy down 5 or 6 with like 8 seconds left or something. That's one of his fondest memories.
Terry, Joe Hall should have two titles in his books when they loss to UCLA in 1975. John wooden announce his retirement day before the title game and the refs made sure he got an w on his last game..
