Trigg County closed the regular season on a winning note Thursday, celebrating Senior Night with a 4-2 victory over Apollo at the Trigg County Recreation Complex.

The Lady Wildcats wasted little time getting on the board.

Five minutes into the match, Kara Boone found Kylie Robinson, who finished the chance to give Trigg a 1-0 lead.

Lydia Redd doubled the advantage with 21 minutes remaining in the first half, scoring unassisted to make it 2-0.

Apollo answered three minutes later to cut the lead in half, and Trigg carried a 2-1 advantage into halftime.

The Lady Wildcats regained control early in the second half.

Nine minutes after the break, Boone picked up her second assist of the night when Robinson scored her second goal to push the lead to 3-1.

Boone then went from setting up goals to scoring one herself. She took a pass from Lydia Esposito and knocked in a shot from out front to extend Trigg’s advantage to 4-1.

Apollo closed the scoring with six minutes remaining, converting a penalty kick to make it 4-2.

Robinson finished with two goals for the Lady Wildcats, while Boone had a goal and two assists. Redd added a goal, and Esposito finished with an assist.

The victory gives Trigg County an 8-6 record to close the regular season. The Lady Wildcats were scheduled to play Todd County Central on Friday, but the match was canceled.

Trigg will now turn its attention to the postseason.

The Lady Wildcats will play in the Fifth District championship on Tuesday, October 13, against either Lyon County or Crittenden County. Lee S. Jones Park in Eddyville will host this year’s district tournament.

Apollo dropped to 1-16-1 with the loss.
