PREVIEW – Trigg County vs Caldwell County (Girls’ 2nd Region Tournament)

The second night of the Girls’ 2nd Region tournament Tuesday night will get underway with a matchup between two former district rivals. The Trigg County Lady Wildcats, champions from the 5th District, will battle the Caldwell County Lady Tigers, runners-up from the 7tb District.

The Lady Wildcats come into the tournament riding the momentum of their 2nd straight 5th District title and an historic season. The Lady Wildcats are 24-8 and have won their last four games in a row. Their last loss came to Caldwell County on the Lady Tigers’ home court on Valentine’s night. Trigg County reached the sectional round of this year’s Kentucky 2A Championship before losing to Calloway County.

Trigg County is led by Olivia Noffsinger, who is the Lady Wildcats only double figures scorer at 10.3 points per game. Rylee Bush is just under double figures at 9.3 points a contest. Right with Bush is Adrionna Phillips at 9.0 ppg and Marleigh Reynolds with 8.8 ppg.

Rylee Bush is Trigg County’s leading rebounder at 7.8 per game. Marleigh Reynolds is next with 7 rebounds per contest, followed by Adrionna Phillips with 6.1 boards per game.

Trigg County has seen their share of struggles from the field this season, as the Lady Wildcats are shooting 30.9-percent for the season. Behind the arc, Trigg County is shooting at a 22.4-percent clip. At the free throw line, the Lady Wildcats are hitting 54.3-percent. Trigg County averages 32.5 rebounds per game.

Caldwell County enters the matchup with a record of 16-14. The Lady Tigers are coming off a 68-33 district championship loss to Madisonville. The Lady Tigers met the Lady Wildcats twice this season, winning in Princeton, and losing on the Lady Wildcats’ home floor in late January.

The Lady Tigers will be without the services of point guard Jada Boyd, who suffered a season ending injury earlier in the season. Boyd had been averaging 9.6 points a game at the time of the injury.

Caldwell County is led by Bella McConnell and Jacey Jaggers. McConnell is averaging 12.7 points per game, with Jaggers right behind her at 12.5 points per contest. Maja Hollowell is averaging 8.6 points a game for the Lady Tigers.

On the glass, Bella McConnell is the top rebounder for Caldwell County at 6.7 rebounds per game. Karsyn Parker is next with 5.8 boards. Jacey Jaggers pulls down 4.6 rebounds per contest.

For the season, the Lady Tigers are shooting at 37.5-percent from the field. Their percentage behind the 3-point line is at 30.9. When they go to the line, the Lady Tigers are knocking down 56.5-percent of their free throws. Caldwell County averages 29 rebounds per game.

Trigg County is averaging 47.7 points per game, while the Lady Wildcats are giving up 41 points per contest. Caldwell County enters the tournament averaging 49.9 points a game, while giving up 53.6 points per contest.

The two teams last met in the regional tournament in 2009, with the Lady Tigers taking a 79-67 win in Madisonville.

Caldwell County last won a 2nd Region championship in 1993, when they won their second of two in a row. Trigg County has only won one game in 2nd Region history, that coming over Fort Campbell in 1990 at West Hopkins.
