While many of Tuesday night’s soccer matches across the region were either canceled or postponed due to the current heat wave, the Todd County Central Rebels were able to avoid having to cancel their home match against Caldwell County. The Rebels got two goals from Zack Robinson as they ‘sweated’ out a 4-1 win over the Tigers.
With a 100-degree heat index at kickoff, the teams took the step of taking additional water breaks at the 20-minute mark of each half.
The game was even through much of the first half with the Caldwell County speed on the wings giving the Rebels some problems. With about 10 minutes left in the first half, Ivan Lopez hustled all the way to the end line at the post and took a ball that appeared to be going out and sent it right across the net for the first goal of the night.
Two minutes later Zack Robinson took a drop from Brett Harris at the top of the box and buried the shot low across the ground, giving the Rebels a 2-0 lead at the half.
The score remained that way until the final 10 minutes of the match. Caldwell County was able to catch the Rebels on a counter and find the net to pull to within 2-1. A.J Padilla got the goal, assisted by Alex Noffsinger.
The Rebels however snuffed out the rally as minutes later Zack Robinson hit another burner that was initially saved but not corralled and Charlie Campbell was there for the putback for Todd County Central to push the lead out to 3-1. With 4 minutes left, Robinson dropped a ball to Aaron Mansfield just outside the box, and Mansfield buried the shot to close out the scoring for the evening and giving Todd County Central the 4-1 win.
Todd County Central improved to 3-3 with the win, while Caldwell County drops to 2-4 with the loss.
