Marshall County did all of its offensive damage over the last two innings while rallying for a 6-4 baseball victory at Lyon County on Thursday.
Riley Henson’s grand slam to left-center in the top of the sixth inning was the big blast for the Marshals (1-1), who tacked on two more runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Lyon (0-2) had taken a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on Turner Hurst’s two-out, two-run single into right.
Those were the only runs Marshall sophomore left-hander Thomas Bagby allowed in five innings of work.
Bagby struck out five and walked three while surrendering five base hits. He picked up the win while Jace Driver tossed the last two innings, allowing two earned runs on two hits with three strikeouts and one walk, to earn the save.
Down 4-2 in the bottom of the sixth, Lyon made it a one-run game when Colton Prow’s groundout to second allowed Drew Richie to score from third.
But Lyon could not keep it a 4-3 game. Instead, Marshall added two more runs in the top of the seventh.
Clayton Wyatt drew a bases-loaded walk, then Kaden Merrick delivered a sacrifice fly to right to extend the Marshal lead to 6-3.
Lyon got one run in the bottom of the seventh when Brady Belt doubled and later scored on a sacrifice fly to left by Eli Baker. But the Lyons could not get the potential tying run to the plate.
Belt finished 2-for-3 at the plate for the Lyons. Hudson Phillips doubled and was 1-for-3.
Gavin Clark was 3-for-3 with a double for the Marshals.
The Lyons next head to Owensboro Apollo on Saturday afternoon.
