The Christian County Lady Colonels will have to wait and see how many at-large bids they will receive for the Class 3A State Track and Field Meet later this month, following Thursday’s region meet at McCracken County High School.
Symeria Brown appears to have the best shot at qualifying in a couple of events. She came in third place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.88 and was fourth in the 200-meter dash in a season-best 27.33 seconds.
Jazmyn Rodriguez finished 12th in the 100-meter dash in 14.19 seconds and was 17th in the 200 meters in 29.60 seconds.
Seventh grader Lilly Collins finished 13th in the 1600-meter run in 7:28.67 and 16th in the 800 meters in 3:19.31.
The 800-meter relay team finished in fifth place with a time of 1:56.44.
In the field events, Olivia Jones came in 15th in the shot put in 21-01.
Takiyah Davie placed 14th in the discus throw (52-5) and 16th in the shot put in 19-07.
Kaliyah Leavell was 14th in the long jump at 11-10.75.
As a team, Christian County came in 10th place with 12 points.
The start of the meet was delayed 45 minutes due to lightning that accompanied a storm that moved through the area. Midway through the third event, there was another hour-long delay due to 30 to 40 mph wind gusts that rolled through the area.
The top two finishers in each event automatically qualify for the state meet on May 31 at the University of Kentucky. The next 10 times/distances/heights from across the state at the region will also advance. Those will be known by the end of the week.
