Caldwell County’s Jacy Travis is trying to become the first national high school rodeo queen to hail from Kentucky this week during competition in Wyoming.

A Caldwell County teen is hoping to make history this week as she vies to become the National High School Finals Rodeo Queen in Wyoming.

Jacy Travis began her weeklong program Friday of different activities at the rodeo in Rock Springs, Wyoming. The Caldwell County High School teen won the title of Kentucky Rodeo Queen earlier this year at the state competition in Greenville, which qualified her for nationals.

Travis, the daughter of Jay and Michelle Travis of Fredonia, will compete in competitions that include a written test, horsemanship, modeling, speech delivery, and a personal interview with the judges. Travis will also be judged as she presents the flags in the arena before each event.

Travis is trying to become the first national high school rodeo queen to hail from Kentucky since the competition began in 1950. The official announcement will be made Saturday.
