Caldwell County’s Shane Burns made it official Wednesday when he signed his letter of intent to play college baseball at Murray State University. Burns put his signature on the letter in front of a large crowd of family and friends at the high school Wednesday.

The left-handed pitcher had several offers to choose from but ultimately committed to Murray State earlier this year. He will join former teammate Luke Brown on the Racer pitching staff.

Burns was 8-1 with a miniscule 0.56 ERA in 62 innings pitched. He struck out 103 batters, while walking just 11. He has been instrumental in leading the Tigers to back-to-back Second Region titles and a trip to the All-A State Tournament in 2017.

Burns was also a standout quarterback for Caldwell County, throwing for over 3,000 yards and 37 touchdowns as a junior before opting to sit out his senior season to concentrate on baseball. Since baseball ended in the spring, Burns has dropped 25 pounds in an effort to get into better playing shape.
