Gray Continues Unbeaten Streak at Woodford Invite

Caldwell County’s Dylan Gray remained unbeaten on the season, winning the 182-pound class Saturday at the Woodford County Invitational. Gray, who wrestled at 160 pounds last year, entered the week ranked No. 4 in the 170-pound class, according to KentuckyWrestling.com.

Gray opened with a pin of Alex Rangle of Western in his first match and followed with a pin of Will Marshall of Lafayette. In the semifinals, Gray won a 4-1 decision over No. 2 Dakota Santiago of Taylor County.

He met up with Christian County’s Diion Leavell, the No. 4 wrestler in the 182-pound class, in the title match. Gray won with a 5-3 decision.

Seth Slayton, the No. 12 wrestler in the 160-pound weight class, finished in fifth place. Slayton beat No. 23 Cameron Coleman of Christian County in the opening match. He then ran into John Hardin’s Derrick Smallwood, the top-ranked wrestler in the weight class, who pinned him.

Slayton rebounded with a 10-1 major decision over No. 17 Will Baber of Bourbon County.

The Tigers also got sixth place finishes from James Jones in the 113-pound class and Tristian Tinsley in the 145-pound class.

As a team, Caldwell County finished 11th out of 27 teams with 80.5 points.

Caldwell County will wrestle next weekend at the Father Ryan Invitational in Nashville.
