Christian County Holding on Top of YSE 2nd Region Rankings

rankings-jan-4

The Christian County Colonels continue to hold the top spot in this week’s YSE Boys 2nd Region Basketball Rankings, by a thin margin at this point, with the UHA Blazers right on their heels. And, watch out for the Madisonville Maroons.

1. Christian County (9-3) – The Colonels only went 1-2 at Poplar Bluff, but that was some stiff competition to say the least. That tournament experience can only benefit them come March.

2. UHA (7-4) – The Blazers go 2-1 at the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic at Lexington Catholic. That was almost enough, almost, to get them back into the #1 spot in the region.

3. Madisonville (12-3) – The Maroons are on a four game winning streak. Still believe this is a team that is not gonna be fun for somebody to have to match up against in the 2nd Region tourney. A team that may be growing in its confidence.

4. Webster County (10-4) – The Trojans go 2-1 at the Henry County holiday event, losing only to a good West Jessamine team. Still, and I know I have said this before, the loss at home to Livingston Central still hangs me up on moving them any higher for right now.

5. Hopkinsville (4-9) – A tough visit to Nashville for the Tigers, who are still dealing with injuries and trying to get their team chemistry situated as players begin to make their way back. A big loss to Madisonville is a bit concerning at this point, not the loss per se, but the margin.

6. Henderson County (5-7) – Colonels go 1-3 at the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic. Of concern, is the 30 points they scored in a loss to Dunbar. Mark it on your calendar, January 9th, when they go to Dixon to take on Webster County.

7. Livingston Central (10-6) – The Cardinals go 2-1 in LaRue County’s holiday event, losing only to the host school. By the way, LaRue County is 11-1. This team is close to climbing another rung on the region ladder. A big win Tuesday night over Carlisle County.

8. Caldwell County (6-7) – The Tigers went 0-2 against really tough competition in the West Kentucky Hoops Classic, and then a blowout win Tuesday over Dawson Springs, enough to keep them in front of Hopkins Central and Union County for now.

9. Hopkins Central (7-7) – Went 1-2 at a tournament in Bowling Green, picking up a win over Murray. Not enough to move them up in this week’s rankings. The win over McLean County Tuesday night is a positive.

10. Union County (7-6) – Went 1-2 against Illinois schools over the past week. Let’s see what happens Friday night when they square off against Webster County.

11. Fort Campbell (2-4) – No games again this week, no change for the Fort Campbell Falcons. They finally get back to action Friday when they take on Hopkinsville.

12. Trigg County (7-5) – A win in the Stewart County holiday event, followed by a win at Community Christian, a combination that moves Trigg up a spot this week in the rankings.

13. Dawson Springs (2-9) – First game out of the holidays and they run into a buzz saw in the form of the Caldwell County Tigers. Dawson still looking to find their footing this season.

14. Lyon County (1-10) – No games between Christmas and New Year’s. Coming out of the holidays they battle Webster County early, but not enough fire power for now to stay with the Trojans on their home floor.

15. Crittenden County (2-8) – Two losses in the Stewart County Christmas tournament, including one to Cheatham County, who Trigg County edged in two overtimes, is not a prescription to move up at this point.
