After beating Crittenden County twice during the regular season last year, the Lyon County baseball team suffered a disappointing upset loss to the Rockets in the 5th District tournament to end its season.  With that loss serving as motivation, the Lyons are aiming to improve on their 16-14 record and make some postseason noise in 2018.

The Lyons graduated three seniors, OF Cole Cannon, P/IF/OF Avery Ellis, and P/OF Gavin Colley, and saw junior OF/IF/P Bryar Riley transfer, but boast 6 seniors this season, including 1B/P Jack Walker and C/IF Brody Bridges.

Joining Walker and Bridges are returning starters freshman Christian O’Daniel and 8th grader Gunnar Bingham at 2nd base, junior short stop Gabe Board, junior 3rd baseman Keaton Bridges, senior outfielder Max Wadlington, freshman OF/P Travis Yancey, junior outfielder Jake Klueppel, and senior pitcher Christian Whalin.

The Lyons have also made a change at the helm of the program, as long-time Lyon County basketball coach Jeff Embrey trades in his whistle for a ball cap.  The Lyons parted ways with former coach Greg Vincent after one season, and Embrey signed on just over a week ago.

Lyon County will open the season at home on Monday when Dawson Springs makes the trip to Eddyville, and will play its first district game March 26 at Trigg County.  The All A tournament will begin on April 9 for the Lyons, with a match-up against Livingston Central.
