Lady Tigers Fall in Season Opener at Webster County

Despite managing only two hits, the Webster County Lady Trojans handed the Caldwell County Lady Tigers a loss in their season opener in Dixon Thursday evening. Webster plated three runs in the bottom of the first inning and then held on for the 4-2 win.

Caldwell County missed a golden opportunity to take control of the game right out of the gate. Following walks to Allie Felker and Katie Franklin, Moshea Glover singled to load the bases with nobody out. However, Webster County pitcher Karlie Keeney struck out the next two batters and then got a pop out to end the threat in the top of the 1st.

In the bottom of the first, the Lady Trojans took advantage of two walks, a hit batter, and a Caldwell County error to score three runs. The big blow coming in the form of a two-run single by Kari Wood.

Caldwell County scored a run on a wild pitch in the top of the 2nd to cut the lead to 3-1. Webster County got a home run from Hattie Hartman in the bottom of the 3rd to push the lead back out to three runs at 4-1.

The score stayed that way until the top of the 7th when the Lady Tigers tried to mount a last ditch rally. Majah Hollowell led off the 7th with a single. A ground out moved Hollowell to 2nd. Hollowell moved to 3rd on a wild pitch, and then Felker was hit by a pitch to bring the tying run to the plate. After a strikeout, Glover singled to drive in a run and cut the lead to 4-2, bringing the go ahead run to the plate. Keeney induced Madi Choate to line out to the 2nd baseman to end the game.

Webster County scored their four runs on two hits, while the Lady Tigers scored their two runs on a total of four hits.

Moshea Glover had three of Caldwell County’s four hits, going 3-4 on the game. Majah Hollowell had the other hit, going 1-3 in the contest. Katie Franklin was solid for Caldwell County in the circle, giving up only two hits, and striking out ten.
