Owensboro to Host Inaugural Kentucky 2A Championships

Officials with the Kentucky 2A Championships have announced the selection of the site for the inaugural basketball championships in 2019. In a release issued Wednesday morning, officials announced a partnership with the Owensboro-Daviess County Convention and Visitors Bureau to host the Kentucky 2A championship events. The agreement is set to run through June 30, 2021.

The official kickoff of the partnership will take place in January with the boys’ and girls’ basketball state championships, which will be played at the Owensboro Sportscenter, which is also home to the Kentucky Wesleyan College Panthers. The Sportscenter is a 5,000 seat venue, located just off Parrish Avenue, on the west side of Owensboro.

The announcement goes on to note that the agreement includes hosting of two baseball state championships, two softball state championships, one volleyball state championship, one boys soccer state championship, and one girls soccer state championship.

Officials announced that baseball and softball championships will begin during the 2020-2021 school year, with volleyball and soccer championships to begin in the 2021-2022 school year.

In all of the 2A sports, the state will be divided into four sections, with the sectional winner and runner-up advancing to the state championships.
