Lady Wildcats Beat Hoptown, Tie Program Record for Wins

Madison Simpson smacked Trigg County’s ninth homer of the season, setting a new school record.

Trigg County scored in every inning and went on to post a 13-2 win at Hopkinsville Tuesday. The win was Trigg’s 17th and tied the program record for wins in a season.

Eight different Lady Wildcats had hits in the contest as Trigg County has responded to a 21-inning scoreless streak with 40 runs in their last three games.

Already up 2-0, Trigg County scored three runs in the second inning on an RBI single by Abby Terrell, a sacrifice fly and a passed ball to take a 5-0 lead.

Madison Simpson led off the third inning with a solo home run as part of her two-hit night that saw her drive in four runs.

Hopkinsville got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning when Morgan Hodge singled home Shelby Harbour.

Lauren Hodge had two doubles, and Morgan Hodge also had two hits for Hoptown.

Terrell had two hits and two RBIs for Trigg County, while Adri Phillips and Kara Southwood each had two hits and an RBI.

Hannah Colbert allowed seven hits and an earned run while striking out 14 batters.

Trigg County (17-10) can for a school-record 18th win Thursday at Crittenden County where a win could also give them the inside track at the top seed in the Fifth District Tournament.

Hopkinsville (6-18) will travel to Franklin-Simpson Friday.
