After finishing as 2nd Region runner-up to her teammate, Caldwell County’s Maddie Morgan represented herself well at the Girls State Tennis tournament Thursday morning at the Lexington Tennis Club. Morgan played several long rallies and was very compeititve in most of her points, but ended up in the first round.
Morgan, a sophomore, was matched up against the overall #9 seed of the girls tournament, Grace Gorby, a senior from Grayson County. Gorby, a left-hander, was able to take advantage of her southpaw approach and a strong serve to pick up the 6-1, 6-0 win.
Morgan won her first service game but then lost the next 11 games of the match.
Morgan told YourSportsEdge that the experience will be a good one for her to improved her play headed into her junior season.
Morgan finished as the region runner-up losing to her teammate Belle Englebright.
