Now that P.J. Washington is returning to Kentucky, he will finally have surgery on the finger he injured almost six months ago.

The freshman played the second half of the season with the injured finger and will have surgery in the coming days.

“He’s been dealing with that for about six months,” said Paul Washington, the player’s father. “He’s going to take some time off from basketball and the surgery will keep him out about six weeks. He can still do his conditioning work during that time.”

Washington’s return bolsters UK’s chances for an even better season next year. The team has a four-game exhibition trip to the Bahamas in August to give the new players a chance to bond with the returning players.

Will Washington be ready?

“The goal is to be ready to play in the Bahamas,” Paul Washington said. “That’s why the surgery will be done pretty soon and why he’s going back to Kentucky. I am assuming the surgery will be in Lexington.”
