Deafening noise surrounded Heisman Trophy candidate Benny Snell Jr. as the Kentucky Wildcats went into their Saturday Night matchup with the South Carolina Gamecocks. Sitting at 4-0, the Wildcats were led by senior linebacker Josh Allen in a 24-10 victory to earn their fifth victory in as many games this season.
Though the game was tired after the first quarter, the Wildcats erupted for 21 points in the second quarter for a commanding 24-3 lead.
Allen, a former two-star recruit, compiled three sacks and eight tackles (four for a loss) with a forced fumble and quarterback hurry. His NFL stock is only on the rise with his latest projections around the 20th overall selection.
Snell, while the Gamecocks made it their agenda to bottle him up, still managed to gain 99 yards on 28 carries while also running it in for a score.
AJ Rose, Snell’s explosive backup, and quarterback Terry Wilson both added a rushing touchdown.
For the second straight game, Darius West snagged an interception and also led the team in tackles.
Junior & starting middle linebacker Kash Daniel, though, was ejected in the third quarter for targeting and will be forced to miss the first half of Kentucky’s game next weekend.
Kentucky is now 5-0 for the first time since 1984 and while they’ll celebrate their strong start to the season, they’ll quickly have to shift their focus to their matchup with the Texas A&M Aggies in College Station.
