The Hopkinsville volleyball team charged out of the gate in its 2nd Region quarterfinal match-up with Henderson County on Tuesday night in Union County, taking the opening set before falling 1-3 to the Lady Colonels. Henderson advances to Wednesday’s semifinal with Caldwell County, while Hoptown ends its season at 9-25 overall.
The Lady Tigers doubled-up Henderson at 22-11 in the first set, before the Lady Colonels closed to 22-15 and forced a Hoptown timeout. Out of the break, the Lady Tigers outscored Henderson 3-1 to take the set 25-16.
Hoptown maintained the momentum in the second set, taking a 4-0 lead after a Karalyn Beymer kill. However, the Lady Colonels battled back to edge in front at 7-6 with a kill from Hannah Watkins. The Lady Tigers never led after that, falling 16-25 to even the match.
Henderson flexed its muscles in the third, jumping out to a 17-7 lead and going on to win 25-12. The fourth set would prove to be much more competitive, with both teams leading at different points and three ties. The Lady Tigers took a 7-5 lead before Henderson took a timeout. The set would be tied at 12-12, 13-13, and 17-17, with the Lady Colonels moving ahead 20-17 and Hoptown calling a timeout to regroup. A Sarah Cavanah kill cut it to 1 at 20-21, but the Lady Tigers couldn’t get any closer and fell 22-25 to end the match.
Cavanah’s 9 kills led the Lady Tigers, to go with 3 aces and an assist. Beymer had 9 kills, with Savannah Peck collecting 25 assists, a kill, and an ace. Shelby Isenhoff finished with 5 kills and a block, followed by Hope Pace with 3 kills, Hailey Hallmark with a kill and a block, and Alyssa Bearns with a kill and an assist.
