A slow start proved to be the difference for Trigg County in their 41-26 loss to Warren East Saturday in the first round of the inaugural Class 2A championships in Bowling Green.

The Lady Wildcats fell behind 7-0 after one quarter and were down 10-0 before putting a dent in the scoreboard. The 10-point deficit would be the norm for most of the game.

Trigg County trailed 19-8 at halftime and could never get the deficit inside 10 points in the second half.

Rylee Bush led the Lady Wildcats with 12 points and six rebounds. T.T. Grubbs added seven points and four boards. Trigg shot 25-percent from the field and didn’t hit a 3-pointer in the contest.

Hailey Hymer led a balanced Warren East scoring sheet with 11 points, while Lucy Patterson added nine points and eight rebounds. Warren East (2-7) will play Glasgow in the second round of the 2A Championships.

Trigg County (3-7) will welcome Christian County to Wildcat Gym Monday for their first matchup in 18 years.
