Allen County-Scottsville came to Elkton on Tuesday night boasting a 6-1 record, but the Todd County Central boys’ basketball team jumped out to an early, double-digit lead, and still held an advantage early in the fourth quarter.  However, the wheels fell off for the Rebels over the last 8 minutes, and they were outscored 29-9 on the way to a 72-59 defeat.  The loss is the third-straight for the Rebels, dropping them to 3-6 overall.

After a Kimahri Briggs 3-pointer just over halfway through the first quarter, the Rebels took a 12-2 advantage.  Briggs, Jon Calvery and Clayte Weathers scored 16 of Todd County’s 21 first-quarter points, and the Rebels led 21-10.

Mason Shirley scored 8 and Brett Rippy chipped in 6 for the Patriots in the second quarter, pulling to as close as 3 points with less than 2 minutes to play in the half.  But Briggs collected a rebound and beat the buzzer with a putback for a 36-31 Todd County lead at the break.

The Patriots were back within 3 and forced a Todd County timeout with 2:44 to go in the third.  After a Patriot 3-pointer, Todd County’s Calvery closed the quarter with 4 points on a dunk and a basket in the lane, making the score 50-43 with a quarter to play.

In the fourth, the Patriots hit more free throws, 10, than the Rebels scored points, 9.  Rippy went 3-4 from the line, while Shirley was 5-5, and the Patriots took their first lead at 53-52 with 6 minutes to play.  Allen County-Scottsville closed the show on a 19-7 run for the comfortable 13-point victory.

Calvery led three Rebels in double figures with 20, followed by Weathers with 11, and Briggs with 10.

Rippy and Shirley both finished with 17 for the Patriots, with Owen Stamper adding 14.

Todd County will be back in action on Wednesday, traveling to Warren East to face Campbellsville (3-4) at the Warren East Holiday Hoops Classic.
