Early Run Powers Lady Maroons Past Caldwell in 7th District Tilt

Madisonville-North Hopkins’ girls scored 16 straight points during a 24-2 first-half run, and went on to defeat Caldwell County 68-33 Tuesday night in 7th District action in Madisonville.

The game was tied briefly at 2-2 before the Lady Maroons opened up a 15-2 lead after 8 minutes.

A driving layup by Camryn LaGrange gave Madisonville a 26-4 lead midway through the second period.

The Lady Maroons (13-3 overall, 3-0 district) led 28-12 at halftime.

Caldwell (7-8, 1-2) got to within 12 points early in the third quarter, following back-to-back baskets by Bella McConnell that made it 28-16.

But the Lady Tigers could get no closer.

Madisonville extended its lead to 46-23 after three quarters, then stretched its margin to 35 points late in the contest.

LaGrange finished with 19 points for the Lady Maroons. Courtney Peyton added 16 points and nine rebounds while Lindsey Peyton had nine points and 15 boards.

McConnell paced Caldwell with 13 points. Jada Boyd had five points while Jacey Jaggers and Majah Hollowell had four points apiece.

The Lady Tigers and Lady Maroons will meet again on Friday, Feb. 1, in Princeton.

Caldwell’s girls have another stern test on Thursday when they visit Webster County (16-2) for a quarterfinal round contest in the Kentucky 2A Championships Section I Tournament.
