Late Collapse Sends HCA to Third KCAA Loss of Season

Heritage Christian Academy entered Tuesday’s game with region foe Oak Ridge Christian ranked only behind Galilean in the latest KCAA Power Poll. However, it was the fifth-ranked Warriors from Morgantown who went on a 10-0 run in the final two minutes to steal a 54-47 win from HCA at Warrior Gym.

Neither team were separated by more than eight points until the final two minutes of the contest. Oak Ridge led 18-13 after one quarter with the game tied at halftime.

Oak Ridge grabbed a 42-38 lead to begin the fourth quarter, but HCA answered to tie the game at 42. The teams were tied at 44 with two minutes left, and the wheels fell off the HCA wagon. Oak Ridge converted a 3-point play with 1:45 left. After HCA missed a game-tying three, the Warriors’ James Folz was whistled for his fifth foul. A quick protest earned Folz a quick technical foul. Jacob Chrismas hit all four free throws for a 51-44 Oak Ridge lead.

Oak Ridge hit 11-of-16 free throws in the second half, while HCA hit 5-of-11.

Gavin Fowler led HCA with 16 points. Folz added 12 points and eight rebounds. Rajah Mills scored seven points, and Josh Jones and Austin Crawford each scored five points.
Chrisman led Oak Ridge with 17 points.

Heritage Christian (13-4) will return to action Saturday against Somerset Christian.
