Former Rebel Coach Harold Ross Honored with UK Title Team

Former Todd County Central basketball coach Harold Ross was among the players of the 1958 University of Kentucky national championship team honored Saturday at Rupp Arena.

Ross was a standout player from Hickman who went on to play three years for Kentucky. The 1958 Wildcats finished 23-6 and defeated Elgin Baylor and Seattle 84-72 for the national title.

Ross became head coach at Elkton High School after graduating from UK. He led Elkton to four consecutive Eighth District titles and became the first coach at Todd County Central High School in 1963 when Clifty and Guthrie joined Elkton for form the new school.

The Rebels won district titles in 1965 and 1966. He coached until 1968 and had a record of 182-98 at Todd County Central.

Ross was athletic director at Todd County from 1970-84 and was principal from 1985-91.
