UHA Blazers Top Fort Campbell For Opening-Night Win

The UHA baseball team kicked the season off with a win on Monday night, topping 8th-District rival Fort Campbell 10-3 on post.  Tanner Thomas pitched 5 strong innings for the win, and the Blazers outhit the Falcons 9-1 to beat them in the opener for the second year in a row.

Dan Johnson singled in 2 in the top of the first for the Blazers, but the Falcons took advantage of 2-straight errors to push 3 runs across in their half of the inning.

After tying it up in the second, the Blazers took the lead for good on back-to-back run-scoring wild pitches for a 5-3 advantage after three.

Drew McGowan hit an inside-the-park home run in the top of the fourth, and the Blazers turned 3 singles and 2 Falcon errors into 3 runs in the sixth for the final 7-run margin.

Thomas allowed 1 hit and 3 unearned runs over 5 innings, while walking 2 and striking out 9.  McGowan and Dustin Moon each pitched a hitless inning to close out the game.  McGowan and Johnson each had a couple of RBI, with Ben Stone collecting 2 hits and bringing in a run.

Dylan Johnson took the loss for the Falcons, lasting 3 innings while surrendering 5 runs, 3 earned, on 5 hits with 6 strikeouts and 4 walks.  Tyler MacKay had the Falcons lone hit, while Greysen Meyer, Peyton Loveall, and Kevin Rhodd each had an RBI.

The Blazers are back in action on Tuesday with a visit from Hopkinsville on the schedule.  The Falcons are off until Thursday, when they face off at home with Warren Central.
