Bryar Riley Scatters 8 Hits as Caldwell County Routs Hopkins Central 10-0

Caldwell County routed Hopkins County Central 10-0 in five innings on Tuesday to wrap up the No. 2 seed for the 7th District baseball tournament.

Bryar Riley scattered eight base hits and did not walk a batter while shutting out the Storm.

The Tigers used a six-run third inning to take control of the contest.

Caldwell went up 1-0 in the second inning on an RBI single by Easton Thompson.

The Tigers then sent 11 men to the plate in the third inning while blowing the game open. Brian Owen singled home two runs in that frame while Gabe East added an RBI single as Caldwell extended its lead to 7-0.

Thompson doubled home another run as part of a three-run fourth that put the Tigers up 10-0.

Thompson finished the day 2-for-2 with two RBIs. East went 2-for-3 and drove in a run. Tate VanHooser added a double for the Tigers, who completed a regular-season sweep of Hopkins Central.

The two teams will meet again in the 7th District tournament semifinals.

For Hopkins Central, Ethan Putty and Austin Scarbrough each went 2-for-3.

Riley struck out three for Caldwell and needed just 61 pitches in the five-inning contest.

The Tigers improved to 11-10 overall and 4-2 in district play.

Hopkins Central is now 6-15 and 3-3.

Madisonville-North Hopkins will be the No. 1 seed for the district tourney while Dawson Springs is seeded fourth.
