VIDEO – Sumner ‘One of the Guys’ Until Region

It’s not uncommon for girls golfers to play in weekday events with the boys in an effort to reduce the number of playing groups.  As long as they hit from the same tees as the boys, their score can count toward the team score.

Christian County’s Hannah Sumner has been hitting from the longer tees to give the Colonels a fifth member whose score can count toward a team score.  More importantly, the extra distance is giving Sumner a chance to play different clubs and take more time to think through shots.

The move is paying off for Sumner as she led Christian County Tuesday with a low score of 40 at Western Hills.  That score also helped the Colonels edge Hopkinsville by three shots in the team competition.

With the region tournament approaching in a few weeks, Sumner will continue to play alongside the guys and have her score count toward their team score.  But once region week arrives, she is hoping playing the longer distances pays off with a trip to the state tournament.
