Cavanaugh Scores Three for Lady Storm in 5-2 Win Over Trigg

Hopkins County Central entered Thursday’s girls’ soccer match with Trigg County averaging five goals a game in their previous three outings. The Lady Storm kept that consistency with a 5-2 win over the Lady Wildcats in Morton’s Gap.

Katelyn Cavanaugh scored twice in the match’s first three minutes to give the Lady Storm a quick 2-0 lead. Priyah Holmes added a tally midway through the first half to put Hopkins Central ahead 3-0, which was also the halftime score.

Avery Harper scored her second goal in as many games four minutes into the second half to trim the Lady Wildcat deficit to 3-1.

Holmes answered just two minutes later to again give Hopkins County Central a three-goal lead at 4-1.

Isabella Alexander got Trigg to within 4-2 with four minutes left, but Cavanaugh completed her hat trick in injury time with a goal for the final scoring of the game.

Cavanaugh leads Hopkins County Central in scoring this season with 18 goals.

Hopkins County Central improved to 8-4 with their fourth win in their last five outings. They will play both Hopkinsville and Christian County Saturday in the Lady Colonel Showcase at the Stadium of Champions.

Trigg County (6-7) have a pair of district games upcoming. They play at Lyon County Monday and will host Crittenden County Tuesday.
