After dropping its first three games at the KCAA Tip-Off Tournament at Somerset Christian School over the weekend, the Heritage Christian Academy boys’ basketball team opened play at home Tuesday night against Franklin Road Christian School.  Despite five 3-pointers from sophomore Carter Glover, the Warriors fell 59-51 to the Minutemen.

The Warriors trailed early, before Glover came off the bench to drain back-to-back 3-pointers to cut the lead to 1 with 2:25 left in the first.  HCA’s Weston Powell added another 3 to tie the game at 12-12, but the Minutemen led 16-12 after one.

Trailing by 8 early in the second, Glover struck again from deep to start an 8-2 run capped by a pull-up jumper by Trenton Hayes to give the Warriors their first lead.  However, with the game tied with 1:12 left in the half, Parker Applegate got the last of his 8 2nd-quarter points on a 3 for a 30-27 Franklin Road advantage at the break.

HCA’s Elijah Britton and Franklin Road’s Chance Miles dueled in the 3rd, with Britton scoring 9 to Miles’ 8, but the Minutemen outscored the Warriors 21-14 to take control.  HCA trailed by as many as 14, but back-to-back Britton layups and Glover’s fourth deep ball helped trim to margin to 10 going into the final frame.

With 6:52 to go in the game, Derek Wadlington hit a turnaround jumper to pull the Warriors to within 5 at 51-46, but they trailed by 10 before Britton scored the final points of the game with :25 left.

Glover’s 15 points led the Warriors, followed by Powell with 13 and Britton with 11.
