Lady Wildcats Rally Past Union for 18th Win

1-30-bush

Trigg County closed the game on an 11-1 run to hand Union County a 49-41 loss Thursday at Wildcat Gym and pick up their 18th win of the season.

Free throws, which have been troublesome at times for the Lady Wildcats during the season, were their friend Thursday.  Trigg hit 23-of-33 from the line, including 12-of-18 in the fourth quarter that assisted their comeback.

Union County led for most of the first half, leading 14-13 after one quarter and outscoring Trigg 12-5 in the second half for a 26-18 halftime lead.

Trigg used an 11-5 start to the third quarter to pull to within 31-29 with 2:42 left.  Katelyn Hagan came off the bench to hit a pair of 3-pointers to push the Union lead back to 36-29.

Trigg County took their first lead since early in the second quarter with a Marleigh Reynolds’ bucket with 3:13 left that began the final 11-1 run.

Union County hit just 2-of-13 shots in the fourth quarter and turned the ball over six times in the fourth quarter.  The Bravettes also went to the free throw line three times compared to 33 for Trigg.

Trigg County, who hit 7-of-17 at the free throw line in a loss to Crittenden County last week, has bounced back to hit 64-pecent in their current three-game win streak.

Rylee Bush led the Lady Wildcats with 21 points and 13 rebounds.  She is the first Lady Wildcat to top 20 points in a game this year.  Reynolds added nine points and eight rebounds.

Madison Morris scored 12 points to lead Union County.  All of her scoring came in the first half as Trigg made a concerted effort to limit Morris’ second half opportunities.  Hagan scored six points in six minutes for the Bravettes.

Trigg County, who beat Union 40-25 on Jan. 11, have won consecutive games over the Bravettes for the first time since 1978-79.

The Lady Wildcats (18-5) will host Hopkinsville Monday.
