The Christian County Colonels continue to look for their late season footing as we roll into the final three weeks of the regular season. Warren Central used a 15-0 run over the end of the first quarter and the beginning of the second to take control of the game and then hold on for a 56-35 win Monday night at Christian County High School.

The Colonels stood toe to toe with the Dragons early on in the game. Both teams were pushing the tempo getting up and down the court from the opening tip. A Stephen Bussell basket had the Colonels within two points at 10-8 near the halfway point of the opening quarter. Then Christian County would hit a dry spell that would change the momentum of the contest.

Using tight half court defense and transition offense, and with the Colonels struggling to find the basket, Warren Central scored the final 11 points of the first quarter to end the quarter holding a 21-8 lead.

The Dragons then opened the 2nd quarter with the first four points to complete the 15-0 run and go up 25-10. Christian County, with a tough defensive effort, fought to hang in the game for the remainder of the half. The Colonels would get as close as nine points at 25-16, before the Dragons pulled back out to a 34-20 lead at the half.

Another Christian County dry spell in the third quarter effectively sealed the Colonels fate for the night. The Warren Central defense limited Christian County to just two field goals and a free throw. On the offensive end, the Dragons were able to get enough done to open the lead up to 25 points by the end of the quarter at 50-25.

Both teams had their offensive issues coming out for the final quarter. Neither team found the basket until a Warren Central free throw with 5:05 to go in the game. The Colonels would break the final quarter ice with a three pointer from Quan Forte with just under four minutes to go. Reserves for both teams would finish out most of the final four minutes of the game as the Dragons rolled on out to the 21-point win.

For Christian County, Stephen Bussell was the only player to reach double figures, finishing the game with 13 points. Quan Forte added seven points, all of them coming in the 4th quarter. Kobe Dillard scored five points, while Mikeon Mathis chipped in with 4.

The Dragons were led by Dre Boyd with 13 points. Tay Smith had 8 points, while Kamden Lawerence added 7.

With the loss, Christian County drops to 8-15 on the season. The Colonels return to action Saturday at Clinton County, where they will take on Taylor County in the Robbie Davis Memorial Classic.
