Caldwell County Sports Great Scottie Edwards Dies

One of Caldwell County High School’s best athletes ever has died.

Scottie Edwards died Monday night in Indiana. He was 73.

Edwards starred at Princeton Dotson High School before playing one year for Caldwell County following integration.

He is best known for scoring the winning touchdown with 2:18 to play in the Tigers’ 14-7 victory over Fort Thomas Highlands in the 1963 Class 2A state championship game in Lexington.

Edwards scored on a four-yard run on fourth down to give Caldwell County its first state title.

The quarterback on that team was Irl Stevens, who remembered his former teammate on The Sideline Report on WPKY Radio Thursday morning…

 

Besides being a member of Caldwell’s state champion football team in 1963, Edwards was a starter on the Princeton Dotson Bearcats team which won the 2nd Region basketball championship in 1963 as well as a starter on Caldwell County High School’s regional basketball champions in 1964.

He is also a member of the Caldwell County Football Hall of Fame.
