The Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Department is taking the first steps towards resumption of activities at its parks and athletic facilities across the city. The department released its phased re-opening plan Tuesday.
The plan comes in three phases, with activation dates of June 1, June 15, and July 1st.
On June 1st, the Sportsplex will re-open for crowd controllable activities, such as walking and open gym. The Skatepark will also open on the same date. Disc golf courses at Trail of Tears Park and DeBow complex will open with the start of the new month. Trail of Tears Park, DeBow, and Ruff Park will also open for walking, exercising, and informal play. Green spaces, public parking, and restrooms will open at the parks. And, the front offices of the Thomas Street Rec Center will be re-opening.
With the arrival of June 15, Tie Breaker Park will open for practices and local league games. The Sportplex will then open to “low impact” sports in “compartments/courts” in line with government regulations. Playgrounds will also open at parks overseen by the department.
Then, on July 1, Tie Breaker Park will be open to tournament events.
Officials say intense cleanings of facilities will be a part of the re-opening process.
