While it was not the most positive news, it was not the knockout blow that some conferences have seen in regards to fall sports in 2020. The Southeastern Conference announced Tuesday afternoon, that it will postpone the start of competition in some fall sports until at least the end of August.

According to the announcement from the SEC, the start of volleyball, soccer, and cross country will be held off until at least August 31. Conference officials say the move will provide additional time to prepare for the safe return of competition on “an adjusted timeline.”

The action will include all exhibition and non-conference games. Officials went on to add that any rescheduling of non-conference contests impacted by the postponed start of the fall seasons in volleyball, soccer and cross country will be determined by each school.
