Lady Sluggers 18U Go 1-4 in Triple Crown Southeast Nationals

A tough week for the Lousville Lady Sluggers 18U at the Triple Crown Southeast Nationals, in Alpharetta, Georgia. The Lady Sluggers finished their week at 1-4, including a pair of tough, close losses.

The Lady Sluggers squared off against EC Bullets 16 in their opening game first thing Thursday morning. The Bullets took the lead with a 3 run first inning and then put the game away with a four run third inning on the way to a 10-3 win.

Christian County’s Reni Shemwell was 1-3 for the Lady Sluggers with a double and an RBI.

The Lady Sluggers then turned around immediately and took on Team Georgia 18U Premier. Team Georgia took an early 5-0 lead and then had to hold off a Lady Slugger comeback attempt to pick up a 5-3 win.

Christian County’s Pickle Winker finished the game 1-1 with a run scored. Lyon County’s Calista Collins went 1-1 with an RBI.

The Lady Sluggers third game of the event Friday morning saw a pitcher’s duel break out. The Hanover Lady Hornets scored both of their runs in the second inning and then held on for a 2-1 win.

Calista Collins and Reni Shemwell each finished the game 1-2.

The Lady Sluggers got back to action Saturday morning against the Lady Gators 18U. After falling behind 2-0 early, the Lady Sluggers rallied to pick up their first win by the score of 8-6.

Reni Shemwell ended up 2-3, with a double and an RBI. Pickle Winkler finished 1-2, with a run scored and a stolen base.

The Lady Sluggers wrapped up their week on the road taking on the New Jersey Gators. New Jersey used a three run second inning to take a lead they would never give up, on the way to an 8-4 win.
